I am thrilled to finally introduce the R. Douglas Custom Shoe Collection. Many of us have specific needs in shoes that oftentimes cannot be met with ready-made dress shoes. It has been a long-time goal of R. Douglas to offer a custom shoe solution that will address these concerns of fit, function, and personal style. Design

For those who demand a high-quality shoe that compliments their fashion aesthetic, the design options available with R. Douglas custom shoes will meet these needs. Ranging from traditional and classic to modern and contemporary, several dozen shoe designs are available for your selection, and are available as an oxford, loafer, or boot. To compliment your shoe design, R. Douglas offers your choice of toe shape and welt thickness. More than 50 hand-finished leather choices of various colors and textures are available for the use of upper shoe leather. To create an interesting contrast to the exterior leather color, several unique sheepskin leather colors are available for interior shoe lining. Lastly, thread stitching colors allow for an interesting and unique look.

Comfort

To say that these shoes are "comfortable" would be an understatement. All R. Douglas custom shoes are fitted with full leather sock liners with a generous layer of underfoot cushioning. Our leather linings are plush and breathable. Heel pieces are sueded to reduce impact on heel and prevent slippage. Additionally, lightweight fiberglass shanks are used to reduce weight when walking.

Quality

Every pair of R. Douglas custom shoes is handmade by top-level craftsmen. Lasts (shoe molds) are developed in-house with our custom fit department, Italian last makers and leading biomechanists in the US to achieve a superior aesthetic and fit. Leathers are hand-waxed, custom-dyed and burnished using small batch crust leathers. Each pair is cut from a single hide. Master Cutters use the best and most appropriate parts of the hide for each specific pattern piece to help ensure that the shoes will hold their shape and wear well over time. Fiberglass shanks are hand-laid, and heat contoured on to each individual pair for a custom fit, unlike traditional steel shanks which are pre-shaped for mass production. The insole-outsole cavity of each shoe is filled with house-made natural cork. Heel-to-toe sock liners are cushioned with a soft, resilient, orthopedic-grade closed cell padding. Finally, each pair of R. Douglas shoes is hand finished – from uppers to outsole bottoms to edge finishing – with plenty of elbow grease.
